Mold – what to know, what to do and what not to do

What to know about mold

  1. Mold spores occur naturally almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors.
  2. Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air. They can enter your home through your doors, windows or HVAC system, they can even hitch a ride on your pets or your clothing.
  3. Mold spores thrive on moisture and can quickly develop into colonies when exposed to water.
  4. Mold often produces a strong, musty odor.
  5. Higher than normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Indoor humidity should be kept below 45 percent.
  6. Before mold remediation can begin, the source must be addressed, otherwise the mold could return.
