Electric Range catches on Fire in the kitchen.

1/26/2021 (Permalink)

Range Fire This electric range came on by itself and caused a lot of damage to the home.

Did you know that nationally, the leading cause of house fires are caused in the kitchen by cooking - this doesn't mean you stop cooking and eat out forever! It just means that there are steps you can take to prevent those cooking fires.

Top Tips for cooking safety:

1. Turn the handles of the pots/pans you are using toward the back of the stove.

If a small grease fire occurs, stay calm, turn the burner off and slide the lid over the pan.

2. Keep an eye on what you are cooking - don't walk away!

Setting a timer will help remind you that you have something cooking.

3. Keep kids at least three feet away from the stove, or any area where hot foods and drinks are being prepared or carried.

  Create a "kid-free zone"

4. Make sure your smoke alarms are working

Change batteries twice a year - when you adjust your clocks for daylight savings time is a good reminder
